Vocational Specialist

Primary Function:

Provide a broad range of vocational services for clients in the residential programs by performing the following duties.

Scope of Work:

The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.  The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position.

  • Develop and deliver training and educational services, to prepare clients in treatment for seeking, securing and retaining employment, in keeping with program funding requirements.
  • Develop job opportunities with private and public employers, job placement services and related entities.
  • Placement of eligible clients into employment and follow-up to ensure that placements succeed.
  • Provide training to clients on budgeting and life skills.
  • Maintain liaison with client's employer's and designated officials of the Department of Corrections.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation in client file as required by funding.
  • Submit reports as required.
  • Participate in weekly therapeutic community meetings.
  • Participate in clinical staffings and team meetings.
  • Coordinate speaking engagements involving clients.
  • Provide feedback to resource agencies.
  • Organize workshops and services for clients that will assist them in the transition back to the community.
  • Participate in staff development activities.
  • Assist in training and education of other staff members, interns and students.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports.  Ability to speak effectively.  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instruction furnished in written, oral or scheduled form.  Knowledge of  12- step program, behavior modification, case management and addiction.
