Lab Technician PRN

Primary function

  • Responsible for preparing samples for analyses, using equipment to run specimens, and conducting moderate complexity tests.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelors Degree in a related field

Medical Laboratory Technician Certification Required 

2 or more years in a related field

Scope of work

The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.  The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position.

  • Performs laboratory testing including obtaining and processing specimens, and performing tests.  Identifies the presence or quantity of drugs of abuse and therapeutic drugs by operating toxicology instrumentation and performing manual methods for the performance of drug screens.
  • Implements written operating procedures and protocols that are in compliance with Federal and State regulations.
  • Maintains a routine documented schedule of quality control and quality assurance for the testing performed and ensuring that these levels are maintained throughout the entire testing process from the initial receipt of the specimen through sample analysis.
  • Participates in an HHS approved proficiency testing program commensurate with the services offered.
  • Performs daily maintenance on laboratory equipment including verifying equipment function through routine equipment maintenance and advance trouble shooting.
  • Calibrate equipment utilizing approved testing procedures.
  • Monitoring quality control measures and protocols.  Maintain proper quality control procedures.  Perform quality control checks of instrumentation against established standards.
  • Verify all reagents, calibrations, quality control for new lot numbers.
  • Maintain all record keeping such as inventory, instrument maintenance, temperatures, quality.
  • Replenishing reagents as needed.
  • Monitors test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.
  • Assists in training staff in the performance of laboratory functions both administrative and technical operating procedures including regular in-service training and education appropriate for the type and complexity of the laboratory services performed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and PHI information.
